Private Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments are carried out in a private treatment room with a relaxing atmosphere. During these sessions, patients can expect a combination of TCM modalities chosen specifically to treat each unique individual and their particular ailments. Treatment plans often include a combination of traditional needling prescriptions, Tuina/Acupressure Massage, Cupping Therapy, Moxibustion/Heat Therapy, Gua sha/Scraping, and/or Laser Acupuncture. In order to strive for best possible outcomes, treatment efficacy and longest lasting results with each visit, treatments are scheudled for 80-90 minutes duration to ensure that each patient always has access to optimal needle retention times as well as all TCM modalities indicated for thier condition.

Prior to your initial visit, your Acupuncturist will require you to fill out an in depth online health history form. With this information she can begin developing a thorough understanding of the way in which your body and mind function, as well as the unique tendencies and ailments that it may have developed along the way. During your initial consultation, your Acupuncturist will review some of these facts with you and most often dive a little deeper with specific questions regarding your main complaint(s). Together you will devise a treatment plan that will best suit your recovery and be tailored to your lifestyle and unique goals.

Welcome WELLNESS LAB! Community Acupuncture creates a powerful collective healing environment that involves being comfortably reclined in a relaxed and meditative group setting. Treatments are provided using effective points on the head, ears, arms and lower legs to treat the whole body, which means that undressing is not required. This model of having multiple individuals participating simultaneously honors the classic Chinese Medicine tradition whilst boasting the benefit of increased affordability. This value means that for many, increased frequency of treatment can become a helpful reality to create change and maintain optimal wellness. A lay down option is also available (first come first serve for an additional cost) for those with concerns that require privacy or face up/face down accessability for the zone of treatment.

There are many medical conditions for which treatment frequency can be most influential in the healing process. Examples of these include Anxiety, Depression, High Stress, PTSD, Headaches, Addiction and Fertility challenges which tend to pair fantastically with the Community Acupuncture model. In addition, most other health challenges and ailments may benefit greatly from the use of Community Acupuncture intermittently between regular private Acupuncture/TCM sessions to encourage continued support in the direction of healing. This technique pays huge dividends in the realm of mental wellness and nervous system regulation which have endless benefits to the whole health of the person. Community Acupuncture is for everyone and is a fantastic way to introduce and maintain optimal mental, emotional, and physical health and wellbeing through a delivery that is both attainable and approachable for all.

REMOVING BARRIERS - For Community Acupuncture we can adopt a "sliding scale" approach to treatment cost in order to support those with challenging financial circumstances. We recognize that individual financial challenges may be unique, temporary, permanent, or even urgent. We are proud to help remove barriers, so that everyone may attain the health care they deserve. If you're in need, please let us know and we'll so our best to help.

Originally from the Niagara Region of Ontario, Julia was raised on the importance of hard work, determination and excellence which continue to be at the core of everything she does. Her early background in Biomedical Science and an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology eventually led her to her first career as a Zoologist and Wildlife Biologist. Here she specialized in Wildlife Rescue, Rehabilitation and Wildlife Medicine where her eagerness to care for others extended far beyond human health. Always a scholar, it was her nurturing side that eventually drew her toward a career field where she could exercise abundant care for others. To this day she remains grateful that this unique role allowed her to really sharpen her skills of sense, intuition and the ability to listen to all that is not said in medicine. It was here working with marine mammals that the constant pursuit of powerful natural healthcare solutions eventually introduced her to the mystery and healing potential of Acupuncture.

Shortly after this revelation, her passion, curiosity and mission to heal others grew so strong that she left her career behind and started her training in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. After years of disciplined study, she graduated with honours at the very top of her class. Following board exam certification and the full renovation of the new Institute of Movement clinic alongside her partner Dr. Scott Emery, Julia was ecstatic to apply her new skill set and start to change lives.

Julia is a board certified and licensed member in good standing of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA). Dr. Danielle McCary grew up in Edmonton Alberta with her parents and younger sister. Throughout her childhood she was lucky enough to enjoy and compete in several sports - track & field, swimming, basketball, & wrestling. She ended up focusing her efforts on sprint canoeing after falling in love with being on the water, and eventually competed for Team Canada. After retiring from paddling she was dealing with several old injuries, which is how she found chiropractic care. She worked at a chiropractic clinic for a year and applied to go to school at Western States Chiropractic College (now University of Western States), which is where she met her husband, Dr. Phil.

After chiropractic school Danielle worked at a well established clinic in Portland that focused on motor vehicle collisions and trauma. During her 2 years working there she gained skills and knowledge to help acute pain patients recover. Eventually, Dr. Danielle and Dr. Phil had an opportunity to take over a clinic in the heart of Portland, which was a dream of theirs to be able to work together.

During the last 15 years Dr. Danielle has focused her care on treating prenatal, postpartum and pediatric populations. She loves supporting her patients through these big changes in life with the rest of their care team. She also worked at the University of Western States for several years, getting to focus with the students as they transitioned into their clinical phase of their education, and was an adjunct professor for pelvis adjusting. She believes it’s important to have more research on the benefits of chiropractic care and has participated in two research studies.
